Hikone Fireworks

Gion Corner
01 Aug 2008 | Comments (0)Yesterday, Matt and I spent most of the day visiting some of Kyoto’s most interesting places. I’ve been in Japan for a long time now, but we still managed to go to places that I have never been before. It was really interesting.
One place that I was surprised that I’ve never been to was Gion Corner. In fact, I’ve never even heard about it until Matt mentioned it. Gion Corner is a popular night spot where you can experience a crash course in Japanese traditional arts. On the stage you can see a Kyoto style dance performed by Maiko, flower arrangement, a special tea ceremony, Koto, a short comedic play, a very rare musical exhibition and an amazing play featuring a puppet. It was pretty cool and even though I have previously experienced some of the arts first hand, it was well worth the 3,150 yen to see the performances.
