Veranda Project

Oh, my back is so sore! I’m sure Azusa, her mom and her brother are feeling the pain too. Today the three of us worked on our veranda and when I say worked, I mean worked ! It was pretty fun though and we really got a lot done. Here are some pictures from throughout the day:

Our veranda

Wow! That’s a lot of stone! Looks heavy too. Who’s gonna carry all of that??? Oh, me…

Our veranda

Tsuyoshi’s scissors weren’t working well, so I tried to gnaw through the rope!

Our veranda

It’s starting to look like something.

Time for the wood!

This goes here, that goes there!

Not finished yet, but pretty good for a days work!

Weekend Project

Honestly, I was never really sure what a veranda is. The only time I really heard it used was in the 1986 comedy, Three Amigos. You remember, don’t you? Rosita suggested to Dusty that he kiss her on the veranda and he answered that her lips would be fine. Funny stuff!

It’s too bad that I didn’t really get that joke 100% until I came to Japan and bought a condo only to find out it has a huge veranda! Well, maybe your grasp of the English language is better than mine and you know that a veranda is just a fancy name for a balcony.

So, this weekend Azusa and I have a huge project. We are going to transform our unfinished concrete veranda into a beautiful, modern Japanese garden complete with bonsai tree!

I’ll be posting some pictures throughout they day so you can see our progress or lack thereof.

Wish us luck!

Picture of the Week

I don’t know about in your part of the world, but we had tons of snow this winter here in Hikone. Azusa and I are really looking forward to Spring! Anyways, I was messing around with my camera the other day and I took this picture of a carnation in our living room. It’s not the best picture ever, but it seems to remind me that spring is just around the corner! That makes it the picture of the week! Enjoy!

Almost spring!
