Holy Cow!
05 Oct 2004 |I can see Koujin Mountain from anywhere in Kawase. It’s there when I look out my window at home, it punctuates the view of Lake Biwa from my desk at work and it bobs on the horizon when I walk to the convenience store. Koujin Mountain is Kawase’s most distinguishing geographical feature and I’m almost embarrassed to say that I’ve never had a chance to go there. Not until yesterday, that is…
Yesterday I discovered a mountain road that goes all the way to the top of Koujin. I was pretty surprised that I had never noticed it before. I just happened to have my camera with me, so I decided to go to the top and find out what’s up there. And what did I find at the top, you ask?
I found a cow!
That’s right! A big cow!!! Here is a picture if you don’t believe me…

I guess I should’ve been more specific. It’s just a cow statue, not a real cow. It seems to guard a small temple on the mountain’s peak. I guess that makes this a holy cow! Anyways, the view from the top of Koujin was pretty spectacular. I could see all of Kawase! I took a bunch of pictures and I’ll post some later if I have a chance.
