Engrish Muffins?

23 Apr 2003 |

A lot of my favorite foods are rare or non-exsistent in Japan… Last week I taught a lesson about food and my students asked me what American foods I missed most. Blueberry muffins topped my list. I told the students that every morning I stopped at 7-11 on my way to school to buy a blueberry muffin and some orange juice. My students were surprised because none of them have even heard of a blueberry muffin before, let alone tried one.

Anyways, when I got to school this morning I found a nice, home made blueberry muffin on my desk with a note from my class! I was so happy! Man, my students are nice!

While I was happily eating my yummy muffin I noticed some funny English on the wrapper… Here’s a pic:

And I thought my students made the muffin! Doh! This kind of thing happens a lot in Japan. Usually we refer to the phenomena as Engrish. You may want to check out Engrish.com for some more funny Engrish. You’ll thank me!
